Welcome to the very first post of the newsletter! Today we interviewed a small but promising artist:
One Z
We managed to ask him some questions about his work and his passion for music.
When did you start your musical career? What motivated you to start it?
I always loved singing and performing as a kid, in my late teen years influences like XXXTENTACION got me really into music, genres, hidden meanings, creativity etc. I started writing my own verses and songs. My motivation to publish it came from seeing others use their music as an outlet for emotion. I use my songwriting process to let out my feelings, and express my opinion on things that I might otherwise have never said.
What genre of music do you play?
My music fits loosely into the hip-hop genre. A lot of my recent music is more punk/pop and alternative rock based. When I make my songs I almost never thinking about a genre, so I don’t like to specify too much. Every song I create I spend time finding melodies and flows that sound nice and fit with the music.
Is there an event, an artist or a band that inspired you?
I was a big fan of Justin Bieber at a young age, growing up I got really into X as I said earlier, and after him Juice WRLD. I currently really like artists like Sewerperson, he has a really unique sound that I respect.
Is your music your principal work? If not, what else are you doing?
Unfortunately not (yet!), I currently work alongside my music, I have lots of other hobbies which also don’t pay, I play basketball at a high level, surf, exercise, go hiking and climbing, and run an online events company. But currently my income comes from various nine to five jobs, which I normally change regularly because I can’t stand them.
Where do you perform most of the time? On which platform is your music available?
My music is available on all platforms! So pick your favourite! I am yet to perform live however I’m in contact with a few other artists and venues about performing to help spread my music.
What are the songs you want to share with people that don’t know your music?
Each song I make I try to keep unique. For someone who has never heard my music in the past, I would suggest listening to ‘Motion’ ; a soft, emotional track that I am immensely proud of, and also ‘Swimming and Sinking’; which has a more raw, earthy side of my vocals. Both tracks show my emotion and energy very well I feel.
If you could recommend a small group or artist to people, which one would it be and why?
An underground artist, and close friend, I would recommend would be BTB. I met Brad through music, he’s a fun guy, and the quality and emotion of his music are truly very impressive. We have worked together a fair bit, and his music inspires me to improve too.
Do you have any new song in preparation? If so, can you give us a little hint about it?
I have lots of unreleased music! I try to make a song at least once a week, some of them I abandon halfway, or finish and never release. I have a few that I am really excited to make public! As for a hint… I’m taking a step into the hyperpop genre next.
Do you want to add something?
I want to invite anyone reading to come experience my music, and grow with me through our separate journeys and careers. The more motivated and successful people we can surround each other with, the more we will all succeed.
Now that you know him a little bit more, share with us which song you preferred and follow him to not miss his future songs.
See you next time.
